Nippon Denso starters are of two types, direct drive and gear reduction. The direct drive starter Fig. 1 is equipped with an overrunning clutch type starter drive. A solenoid switch is mounted on the starter motor.
The gear reduction starter Fig. 2 uses a planetary gear train to transmit armature rotation to the pinion shaft. A solenoid switch is mounted on the starter motor.
