Owner Letter

July, 1990

Dear Customer:

RECALL: 1990 Civic LX/DX Windshield Mounting

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has determined that certain 1990 Civics fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 212, "Windshield Mounting." Poor adhesion between paint layers due to improper formulation of certain paint batches and overspraying during the paint finishing process may result in separation between paint layers. In the event of a collision or accident, it is possible for the windshield to become dislodged and for unrestrained occupants to be ejected through the windshield opening.

Our records indicate that you own one of these cars. If you have not already been contacted by phone, please call your Honda dealer and make an appointment with the Service Department to have the windshield removed and reinstalled to improve its mounting strength. The work will be performed free of charge. Parts are now available. Although the procedure will take just over two hours, you may need to leave your car at the dealership overnight to allow for proper curing of the windshield sealer.

If you are not satisfied with the service you receive from your Honda dealer, you may call the Honda Zone Office in your area, as shown on the map that accompanies this letter.

If you believe American Honda or the dealer has failed to, or is unable to remedy the non-compliance in your car, free of charge, within a reasonable period of time (60 days from the date you first contact your dealer for the repair appointment), you may submit a complaint to:

Administrator
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 400 Seventh St., S.W. Washington, D.C. 20590

Or, call the toll-free Auto Safety Hotline at (800) 424-9393 (residents of Washington D.C. should call 366-5972).

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
