Exploded View Of A/C Compressor:

PURPOSE
The air conditioning compressor used on this vehicle, is a spiral type. It pumps refrigerant through the air conditioning system in order to lower the temperature of the air inside the vehicle.

LOCATION
The compressor is located behind the radiator cooling fan on the left-hand side of the engine compartment.

OPERATION
In this spiral type compressor, refrigerant is compressed between a fixed spiral assembly and an orbiting spiral assembly. A thermal protector is installed on this compressor in the event that the evaporator temperature gets too cold. If the evaporator temperature drops below 31°-35°F (-.5°-1.5°C), the compressor will be disabled until the evaporator temperature raises to within 36°-41°F (2.5°-5°C).
