Transmission Control Systems: Description and Operation

The automatic transmission is a combination of a three element torque converter and a 3-shaft electronically controlled automatic transmission which provides four forward speeds and one reverse speed. The entire unit is positioned in line with the engine.


The electronic control system controls shifting with a transmission control module (TCM), sensors, and four solenoid valves.
