Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor And Specification Chart:






PURPOSE
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor signal is used by the Engine Control Module (ECM) to determine intake air density for mixture control.

OPERATION
The resistance of the IAT decreases as the air intake temperature increases. The ECM uses this decreasing resistance signal in its calculation of injector opening time.

CONSTRUCTION
Temperature sensitive resistor (thermistor).
