Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Intake Air Temperature Sensor is a temperature sensitive resistor (thermistor) which is mounted in the intake manifold to monitor intake charge temperature.

OPERATION
Thermistor resistance decreases as the intake air temperature increases. This signal is used by the Engine Control Module (ECM) to determine intake air density (oxygen content) for mixture control.
