Electric Load Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Senses the total amperage draw placed on the electrical system.

OPERATION
The sensor is monitored by the Engine Control Module (ECM) which then determines and controls the charge rate of the alternator and adjusts the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) to maintain proper engine idle speed.

CONSTRUCTION
The Electrical Load Detector (ELD) is an inductive type pickup, located inside the underhood fuse/relay box.
