Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Distributor Cap: Service and Repair

1. Remove the three screws which secure the Distributor Cap to the Distributor Body.

2. Check for rough or pitted rotor and cap terminals.

3. Scrape or file off the carbon deposits. If rough, smooth the rotor terminal with an oil stone or #600 sandpaper.

4. Check the Distributor Cap for cracks, wear and damage. If necessary, clean or replace it.

5. Clean the mating surfaces on the Distributor Body and Cap and inspect the rubber Cap seal. If the seal is cracked or damaged, replace it.
