Variable Valve Timing Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION

VTEC Solenoid Valve Connector Terminal Identification.:





1. Turn ignition switch off.
2. Disconnect the one pin connector at the VTEC Solenoid Valve.
3. Measure continuity between the valve connector terminal and chassis ground. Resistance should read 14 - 30 ohms. If not, replace VTEC Solenoid Valve.





4. If resistance is within specifications, remove the VTEC Solenoid Valve from the cylinder head check the VTEC Solenoid Valve filter for clogging. If clogging is evident, replace engine oil and filter.
NOTE: The VTEC Solenoid Valve filter is part of the VTEC Solenoid Valve gasket and should be replaced if the valve has been removed.
5. Remove the solenoid from top of the VTEC Solenoid Valve and push the valve with your finger to check for freedom of movement.

Malfunction of the VTEC Solenoid Valve or circuit should set Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 21.
