Ignition Timing: Testing and Inspection

1. Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with no load (A/T in N or P position) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.




2. Pull out the service check connector located behind the glove box. Connect the GRN/BLU and RED terminals with the SCS service connector.
3. Check the idle speed.

Idle Speed: 700 ± 50 rpm




4. Connect a timing light to the No. 1 ignition wire.
^ Point the light toward the pointer on the timing belt cover.




5. If ignition timing differs from the specification below, refer to Computers and Control Systems.

Ignition Timing:
15° ± 2° BTDC (RED) at 700 ± 50 rpm with shift lever in N or P and electrical systems turned off.

6. Remove the SCS service connector from the service check connector.
