DIAGNOSIS

Confirm that the vehicle has P1 5A5 stored in the IMA system.

^ If the vehicle has the latest software installed, follow the steps for DTC troubleshooting:

- Refer to page 12-5 in the 2005-06 Accord Hybrid Service Manual, or

- Online, enter keyword P15A5 and select DTC
Troubleshooting: P15A5 (85) from the list.

^ If the vehicle does not have the latest software, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:

^ Make sure the 12 volt battery in the vehicle is fully charged before proceeding with the update.

^ To prevent control module damage, do not operate anything electrical (audio system, brakes, NC, power windows, moonroof, etc.) during the update.

^ The HDS screen may go dark during the update process. This does not mean the update is complete. Tap the screen and the display will come on showing the current condition of the update. Do not disconnect the HDS or turn the ignition switch off until the update is complete unless directed to do so by the HDS.

1. Use the HDS to update the IMA motor control software. Refer to service bulletin 01-023, Honda-Produced Vehicles With Programmable Control Units/Modules.

2. Disconnect the HDS.

3. Start the engine.

4. Raise the engine speed to between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm, and watch the IMA charge indicator on the dash. The charge indicator should register about three green bars of charging. If so, then hold the engine speed between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm until the IMA battery charge level gauge shows that the IMA battery is fully charged.
