MIL Comes On With Paired DTCs P0303 and P0304 and/or P0301 and P030

REVISION SUMMARY

*Under WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION, the flat rate time was changed.*

SYMPTOM

The MIL comes on with one or both of these paired DTCs:

^ DTC P0303 and P0304 (No. 3 cylinder misfire and No. 4 cylinder misfire detected)

^ DTC P0301 and P0305 (No. 1 cylinder misfire and No. 5 cylinder misfire detected)

NOTE:
DTC P0300 (Random misfire) may also be stored.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The PCM misinterprets inputs as misfires on cylinders 3 and 4 and/or cylinders 1 and 5.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS.

SOFTWARE INFORMATION

DIAGNOSIS

1. Connect the HDS to the vehicle's DLC, and check for these paired DTCs: P0303 and P0304 and/or P0301 and P0305.

^ If any of the paired DTCs are stored, go to step 2.

^ If none of the paired DTCs are stored, this service bulletin does not apply.

2. Using the HDS, retrieve the freeze data for the DTCs, and select the CKP Pattern Learn (High Speed) parameter.

^ If the parameter is listed as COMPLETED, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If the parameter is not listed as COMPLETED, continue with normal troubleshooting and then go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS. Refer to Service Bulletin 01-023, Updating Control Units/ Modules.

2. Do the PCM idle learn procedure:

^ Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off.

^ Start the engine, and let it reach normal operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice).

^ Let the engine idle (with the throttle closed) for 10 minutes.

3. Do the CKP pattern clear and pattern learn procedures with the HDS. (No test-drive is needed.)
