ECM Update to Prevent Momentary Engine Stall During Gear Shifts

(Supersedes 07-017, dated March 9, 2007, to update the information marked by asterisks)

REVISION SUMMARY

SYMPTOM

The engine may stall momentarily when shifting gears and then it restarts with the IMA (integrated motor assist) motor. This symptom is most noticeable if you are watching the tachometer. Very little, if any, change in driveablity occurs.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The ECM misinterprets inputs and momentarily allows the engine to stall.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS. Refer to Service Bulletin 01-023, Updating Control Units/ Modules.

2. Do the ECM idle learn procedure:

^ Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off.

^ Start the engine, and let it reach normal operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice).

^ Let the engine idle (idle stop off and throttle closed) for 10 minutes.
