DIAGNOSIS

1. Connect the HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) to the DLC (data link connector), and check for DTC B2038 (left power sliding door base position switch circuit open/short) and/or B2088 (right power sliding door base position switch circuit open/short).

2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

3. Rehome the affected door(s), and open and close the power sliding door six or seven times.

^ Refer to page 22-436 of the 2005 Odyssey Service Manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword POWER SLID, and select Power Sliding Doors System Description (With Power Slide Door) from the list.

^ If the door(s) operate properly, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If any door continues to set the codes, replace the rear door latch assembly for that door, and then go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

NOTE:
The new latch may or may not come with the rubber seal installed. If the new latch does not have the rubber seal, use steps 3 thru 7 of the REPAIR PROCEDURE to install the new part.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the power sliding door panel:

^ Refer to page 20-19 of the 2005 Odyssey Service Manual, or

^ Online, enter keywords DOOR PANEL, and select Sliding Door Panel Removal/Installation from the list.

2. Remove the rear door latch assembly:

^ Refer to page 20-25 of the 2005 Odyssey Service Manual or

^ Online, enter keyword DOOR LATCH, and select Sliding Door Rear Latch Replacement from the list.

3. Using isopropyl alcohol, thoroughly clean the rear latch assembly where the rubber seal is to be applied. Do not touch the area of the rear door latch after cleaning; contamination would prevent proper adhesion.

NOTE:
The protective sheets are shipped in pairs. Separate the protective sheets along the tear lines, and remove the small segments of material at each end. The dimensions of the sheet to be applied to each latch are 109 x 124 mm.

4. Partially peel back the backing to expose the adhesive on the rubber seal. Position the long side of the rubber seal at the top edge of the semicircle, as shown.

5. While stretching the rubber seal, slightly pull it over the top of the latch assembly onto the plastic cover.

6. Cut a slit in the rubber seal where it is positioned over the notch in the plastic cover.

7. Fold the remaining portion of the protective sheet onto the plastic cover of the latch. Press the rubber seal against the latch to ensure that the adhesive backing is set properly.

8. Reinstall the rear latch assembly and the power sliding door panel.

9. Repeat steps 1 thru 8 for the other door.

10. Use the HDS to clear the codes, if still present.

11. Use the dashboard switches, the handles, and the remote control to ensure that both power sliding doors operate properly.
