Product Update: MIL Comes On With DTC P2647
(Supersedes 05-037, dated August 10, 2010, to revise the information marked with asterisks)
*REVISION SUMMARY
Under WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION, the flat rate was changed.*
BACKGROUND
The PCM software incorrectly interprets sensor inputs from the VTEC system. This may cause the MIL to come on with DTC P2647 (VTEC system stuck ON) the first time you start the engine after changing the engine oil and filter.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
All vehicles within the affected VIN ranges are also affected by S/B 05-035, Safety Recall: Front Impact Sensor Corrosion Causes the SHS Indicator to Stay On. And many vehicles are also affected by S/B 05-036, Product Update: Front Door Inner Handle Cable Freezes, Wire Harness Connectors Need More Dielectric Grease.
When a vehicle comes in for S/B 05-035, check if either product update also applies. If they do, complete the safety recall and the product update(s) on the same visit.
To verify that a vehicle is eligible, do an iN VIN status inquiry.
In addition to the VIN status inquiry, check for a punch mark above the ninth character of the engine compartment VIN. A punch mark in that location means this product update has already been completed.
Some vehicles affected by this product update may still be in dealer inventory. These vehicles must be updated before they are sold or leased.

PCM CAUTIONS
To ensure that the PCM is not permanently damaged during updating, verify that the vehicle's battery is fully charged before starting the PCM update.
If you have a problem (D4/immobilizer light flashes, HDS freezes, etc.) during a programming procedure, minimize the chances of damaging the PCM:
^ CRITICAL: Leave the ignition switch in the "ON" position.
^ Connect a jumper battery (Do not connect a battery charger).
^ Shut down the HDS.
^ Disconnect the HDS from the vehicle DLC.
^ Reboot the HDS.
^ Re-connect the HDS to the vehicle DLC, and retry the programming procedure.
NOTE:
If the vehicle's battery drops below 10 volts during programming, the programming status bar may go past 100%, or the HDS may display an error message.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
