PCM Software Outputs Incorrect Readiness Code Status

BACKGROUND

Readiness codes are part of the on-board diagnostics for the emissions systems. If any of the codes are set to "incomplete," the vehicle could fail a state emissions test.

SYMPTOM

When using the HDS to check the readiness code status, all codes are indicated as being complete, even if they are not. The status of readiness codes checked with a generic scan tool or with the HDS in generic mode will read correctly.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The PCM software incorrectly reports that the readiness code status is complete.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Update the PCM software.
