Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Rear Bumper: Service and Repair

Rear Bumper Removal/Installation

NOTE:
- Have an assistant help you remove and install the rear bumper.
- Take care not to scratch the rear bumper and body.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.

1. Remove the rear bumper as shown. For '04-07 models, to release the speed nuts, refer to front grille replacement.

2. Install the bumper in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Make sure the rear bumper engages the hooks (bumper spacers and under the taillight) on each side securely.
- Make sure the license plate light connector is plugged in properly.
- Check for damaged or stress-whitened clips, and replace them with new ones.
- Replace the speed nuts with new ones ('04-07 models).
- For'04-07 models: If the rear bumper protector is reinstalled, clean it and the bumper with a sponge dampened in alcohol. Apply primer to the protector surface, and then apply new double-sided tape.
- Push the clips into place securely.
