Starter Removal and Installation

Removal - '08 model J35A7 engine

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio system and the navigation system (if equipped). Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then disconnect the positive cable.
3. Remove the intake air duct.
4. Remove the battery, then remove the battery base.
5. Remove the harness clamp (A), harness clamp bracket (B), and dip stick (C).






6. Disconnect the starter cable (D) from the B terminal, then disconnect the connector (E) from the S terminal.
7. Remove the two bolts holding the starter, then remove the starter.






Installation - '08 model J35A7 engine

1. Install the starter (A) using a new gasket (B).






2. Install the harness clamp bracket (A), the harness clamp (B), and the dip stick (C), then connect the starter cable (D) to the B terminal and the connector (E) to the S terminal. Make sure the crimped side of the starter cable ring terminal is facing out, away from the starter.






3. Install the battery base, then install the battery.
4. Install the intake air duct.
5. Connect the positive cable to the battery, then connect the negative cable.
6. Start the engine to make sure the starter works properly.
7. Enter the anti-theft code for the audio system and the navigation system (if equipped).
8. Set the clock (on vehicles without navigation).
