Parking Brake Cable Replacement

NOTE:

- The parking brake cables must not be bent or distorted. This will lead to stiff operation and premature failure.

- Refer to the Exploded View as needed during this procedure.

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations. Service and Repair

2. Remove the rear wheels.

3. Release the parking brake lever fully.

4. Except SC model: Remove the center console.
SC model: Remove the lid from the center console.

5. Loosen the parking brake cable adjusting nut (A) in the equalizer, and disconnect the parking brake cable ends (B) from the equalizer.

6. Remove the cable guide base (C).

7. Remove the rear brake shoe, and disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever. Removal and Replacement

8. Remove the flange bolts (A) and the parking brake cable (B) from the backing plate (C).

9. Remove the parking brake cable mounting hardware, then remove the cable.

10. Reinstall the parking brake cable in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Be careful not to bend or distort the cable.

- Connect the parking brake cable to the parking brake lever, and install the brake shoes and disc/drum. Removal and Replacement

- Clean the mating surfaces between the brake disc/drum and the inside of the wheel, then install the rear wheels.

- Adjust the parking brake. Adjustments Apply the parking brake firmly 10 times then adjust it again.
