Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Brake Fluid Level Sensor/Switch: Testing and Inspection

Brake Fluid Level Switch Test

1. Remove the reservoir cap (A). Check that the float (B) moves up and down freely; if it doesn't, replace the reservoir cap assembly.

2. Check for continuity between the terminals with the float in the down position (C) and the up position (D):
- With the float up, there should be no continuity.

- With the float down, there should be continuity.

- If both the ABS/VSA indicator and the brake system indicator come on at the same time, check the VSA system first. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

- If the parking brake switch and the fluid level switch are OK, but the brake system indicator does not function, do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
