SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 44-11, 46-11, 48-11

DTC 44-11:

No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (first)

DTC 46-11:

No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (second)

DTC 48-11:

No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (third)

NOTE:

- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service Precautions, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software Testing and Inspection, and retest.

1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 44-xx (except 44-11) indicated?

YES -

Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

NO -

Go to step 4.

4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 46-xx (except 46-11) indicated?

YES -

Faulty right side impact sensor (second); replace the right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

NO -

Go to step 5.

5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 48-xx (except 48-11) indicated?

YES -

Faulty right side impact sensor (third); replace the right side impact sensor (third) Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

NO -

Go to step 6.

6. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 46-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 9.

NO -

Go to step 7.

7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 48-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 38.

NO -

Go to step 8.

8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 44-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 67.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

10. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

11. Check for these connector connections and harness.

- SRS unit connector B (39P) and the SRS unit.
- Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.
- Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.
- Right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement.
- C602.
- C608.

Are the connections and harness OK?

YES -

Go to step 12.

NO -

Repair the poor connector connections or replace the harness, then clear the DTC, and retest.

- If poor connector connections are repaired, and DTC 46-11 is still present, go to step 12.
- If the harness is replaced, and DTC 46-11 is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

12. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.

13. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

14. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

15. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

16. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 46-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 17.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (second); replace the right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

17. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

18. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

19. Return the right side impact sensor (second) which was replaced in step 12.

20. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (third) Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement.

21. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

22. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

23. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

24. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 46-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 25.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (third); replace the right side impact sensor (third) Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

25. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

26. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

27. Return the right side impact sensor (third) which was replaced in step 20.

28. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.

29. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.

30. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement.

31. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the right side wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2.





Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?

YES -

Go to step 32.

NO -

Short to another wire in the right side wire harness between the right side impact sensor (second) and the right side impact sensor (third); replace the right side wire harness, then clear the DTC.

32. Measure the resistance between body ground and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the right side wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually.





Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?

YES -

Go to step 33.

NO -

Short to ground in the right side wire harness between the right side impact sensor (second) and the right side impact sensor (third); replace the right side wire harness, then clear the DTC.

33. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

34. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

35. Measure the voltage between body ground and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the right side wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually.





Is there less than 0.2 V?

YES -

Go to step 36.

NO -

Short to power in the right side wire harness between the right side impact sensor (second) and the right side impact sensor (third); replace the right side wire harness, then clear the DTC.

36. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

37. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminal No. 1 and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the right side wire harness terminal No.2, and between right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminal No. 4 and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the right side wire harness terminal No. 1.





Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?

YES -

Disconnect and reconnect the connector, and then check for the DTC again. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

NO -

Open in the right side wire harness between the right side impact sensor (second) and the right side impact sensor (third); replace the right side wire harness, then clear the DTC.

38. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

39. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

40. Check for these connector connections and harness.

- SRS unit connector B (39P) and the SRS unit.
- Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.
- Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.
- Right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement.
- C602.
- C608.

Are the connections and harness OK?

YES -

Go to step 41.

NO -

Repair the poor connector connections or replace the harness, then clear the DTC, and retest.

- If poor connector connections are repaired, and DTC 48-11 is still present, go to step 41.
- If the harness is replaced, and DTC 48-11 is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

41. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (third) Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement.

42. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

43. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

44. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

45. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 48-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 46.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (third); replace the right side impact sensor (third) Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

46. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

47. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

48. Return the right side impact sensor (third) which was replaced in step 41.

49. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

50. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

51. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

52. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

53. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 48-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 54.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

54. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

55. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

56. Return the right side impact sensor (first) which was replaced in step 49.

57. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.

58. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

59. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement.

60. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3.





Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?

YES -

Go to step 61.

NO -

Short to another wire in the left or right side wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (third); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.

61. Measure the resistance between body ground and right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3 individually.





Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?

YES -

Go to step 62.

NO -

Short to ground in the left or right side wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (third); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.

62. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

63. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

64. Measure the voltage between body ground and right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3 individually.





Is there less than 0.2 V?

YES -

Go to step 65.

NO -

Short to power in the left or right side wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (third); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.

65. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

66. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminal No. 1 and right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminal No.3, and between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminal No. 4 and right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminal No. 2.





Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?

YES -

Disconnect and reconnect the connector, and then check for the DTC again. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

NO -

Open in the left or right side wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (third); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.

67. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

68. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

69. Check for these connector connections and harness.

- SRS unit connector B (39P) and the SRS unit.
- Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.
- Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.
- Right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement.
- C602.
- C608.

Are the connections and harness OK?

YES -

Go to step 70.

NO -

Repair the poor connector connections or replace the harness, then clear the DTC, and retest.

- If poor connector connections are repaired, and DTC 44-11 is still present, go to step 70.
- If the harness is replaced, and DTC 44-11 is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

70. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

71. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

72. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

73. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

74. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 44-11 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 75.

NO -

Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.

75. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

76. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

77. Return the right side impact sensor (first) which was replaced in step 70.

78. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.

79. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.

80. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (third) 4P connector on the right side wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Third) Replacement.

81. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3.





Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?

YES -

Go to step 82.

NO -

Short to another wire in the right side wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side wire harness, then clear the DTC.

82. Measure the resistance between body ground and right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3 individually.





Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?

YES -

Go to step 83.

NO -

Short to ground in the right side wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side wire harness, then clear the DTC.

83. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

84. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

85. Measure the voltage between body ground and right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3 individually.





Is there less than 0.2 V?

YES -

Go to step 86.

NO -

Short to power in the right side wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side wire harness, then clear the DTC.

86. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

87. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminal No. 2 and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 11, and between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the right side wire harness terminal No. 3 and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 10.





Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?

YES -

Disconnect and reconnect the connector, and then check for the DTC again. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

NO -

Open in the right side wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side wire harness, then clear the DTC.
