Tailgate Adjustment

Special Tools Required

- KTC Trim Tool Set SOJATP2014

NOTE:

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

1. With power tailgate: Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

NOTE: Open the tailgate by using the emergency lever while adjusting the tailgate.

- Without power tailgate
- With power tailgate

2. Remove these items:

- Tailgate hinge covers, both sides Service and Repair
- Tailgate support struts, both sides Service and Repair
- Right side: Rear of the headliner, as needed Service and Repair

3. Adjust the tailgate (A) alignment in the following sequence:

- Slightly loosen the tailgate hinge mounting bolts, nut and the striker screws.
- Turn the tailgate edge cushions (B), in or out as necessary, to make the tailgate fit flush with the body at the side edges.
- Remove the rear trim panel lid (C).
- Adjust the fit between the tailgate and tailgate opening by moving the striker (D).





4. Tighten hinge mounting bolts, the nut and the striker screws to the specified torque.

5. Check that the tailgate opens properly and locks securely.

6. Reinstall the tailgate support struts securely.

7. Apply touch-up paint to the hinge mounting bolts and around the hinges, and let the paint dry.

8. Apply multipurpose grease to the pivot area of the tailgate hinges (A) as indicated by the arrows.





9. Reinstall all removed parts.

10. With power tailgate: Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.

11. Check for water leaks.
