Cruise Control - Difficulty Shifting In/Out of Overdrive
89hyundai04Subject: Cruise Control Shifts Transmission Out Of Overdrive
Group: ELECTRICAL
Number: 004
Date: MAY, 1989
Model: SONATA
Condition: When the cruise control is set in vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, some vehicles may downshift out of overdrive and will not upshift back into overdrive unless the cruise control is cancelled. This condition may also occur after climbing slight grades.
Cause: Accelerator/Cruise Control cables are not properly adjusted.
Correction: Adjust throttle control cables per Sonata Shop Manual, pages 27-71 through 27-73.
Note: Misadjusted accelerator/cruise control cables will only cause downshifting when the vehicle is being operated in overdrive. The downshift only occurs between overdrive and third gear.
