Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Oxygen Sensor - Contamination

Subject:
OXYGEN SENSOR CONTAMINATION

Rust penetrant oil, such as Hyundai Rust Penetrant or WD-40, can contaminate the oxygen sensor and affect vehicle emissions. If rust penetrant must be used to remove the oxygen sensor, the sensor must be discarded. Before installing a new oxygen sensor, apply anti-seize compound on the threads.
When using a silicone-based sealant during engine repair or rebuild, use only those approved for use on oxygen sensor equipped vehicles.
