Crankshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Crank Angle And #1 TDC Sensor Location:





To test the Crank Angle and the #1 TDC Sensors, located in the distributor, proceed as follows.

Crank Angle and #1 TDC Terminal identification:





1. Connect a voltmeter between terminal 1 and 2, and 1 and 3.
Terminal 1: Sensor ground
Terminal 2: Crank angle signal
Terminal 3: TDC signal

2. Measure the output voltage of the terminals while cranking the engine.
Standard Values
Terminal 2...0.2-1.2v (needle fluctuates)
Terminal 3...1.8-2.5v

3. When the voltage is abnormal, check the sensor power and ground circuits. If nothing unusual is found, disassemble and inspect the distributor.
