EGR Control Solenoid: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The exhaust gas recirculation control solenoid valve regulates the amount of vacuum supplied to the exhaust gas recirculation valve to control exhaust gas recirculation valve operation.

OPERATION
The exhaust gas recirculation control solenoid is a duty-cycle type solenoid. It has a valve that opens and closes the vacuum source line to atmosphere many times per second. This allows only a certain amount of ported vacuum to be applied to the exhaust gas recirculation valve, thereby controlling the amount of exhaust gas recirculation operation. The electronic control module opens and closes the negative circuit, and the control relay supplies the positive circuit.
