Ignition Cable: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION OF SPARK PLUG CABLES

Ignition Wire Inspection:





Visually inspect the ignition wires for the following:
- Insulation for swelling or breakdown due to fuel, oil, grease or etc.
- Insulation for cracks or breaks.
- Insulator boots for swelling or breakdown due to fuel, oil, grease or etc.
- Insulator boots for cracks or breaks.
- Terminal ends for corrosion, cracks or looseness.

Ignition Wire Resistance Test:





Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between the terminal ends.

Resistance:
- Number 1 wire: 7.4 K ohms
- Number 2 wire: 5.4 K ohms
- Number 3 wire: 9.1 K ohms
- Number 4 wire: 6.9 K ohms
- Number 5 wire: 10.2 K ohms
- Number 6 wire: 8.0 K Ohms


NOTE: Resistance should not be higher than 10,000 Ohms per foot of cable. If resistance is higher, replace the cable
