Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Description and Operation

PURPOSE/OPERATION
A The malfunction indicator lamp comes on to notify the driver that there is a problems on the vehicle's control system.
The MIL will go off automatically after 3 subsequent sequential driving cycles where the control system had not redetected same malfunction.
Immediately after the ignition switch is turned on, the malfunction indicator light is lit for 5 seconds to indicate normal operation.
The following items will be indicated by the MIL:

- Catalyst
- Fuel system
- Volume air flow sensor (VAF sensor)
- Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT sensor)
- Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT sensor)
- Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
- Upstream Oxygen Sensor
- Downstream Oxygen Sensor Heater
- Downstream Oxygen Sensor
- Upstream Oxygen Sensor Heater
- Injector
- Misfire
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP sensor)
- Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP sensor)
- Evaporative Emission Control System
- Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
- Idle Speed Control
- ECM
- Manifold Differential Pressure Sensor (MDP sensor)
- Idle Switch
- EGR System
