Power Brake Booster - Check Valve Location/Testing

Group: CHASSIS

Number: 02-50-008

Date: JUNE, 2002

Model: 2001-2002 SANTA FE

Subject
2001-2003 SANTA FE BRAKE BOOSTER
VACUUM HOSE CHECK VALVE LOCATION
(2.7L V.6 EQUIPPED)

DESCRIPTION:

This bulletin provides brake booster check valve relocation information and a check valve test procedure for the 2001-2002 Santa Fe vehicle.

The check valve location, sub assembled in the brake booster vacuum hose, has been changed in the 2.7L (V6) Santa Fe vehicles produced from October 24, 2001 (VIN: KM8SC13D82U184842) as shown.

VACUUM CHECK VALVE TEST PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose from the vehicle.

2. Using an external vacuum pump, apply vacuum to the booster side of the vacuum hose. If vacuum holds, the check valve is good. Proceed to step 4.

3. If no vacuum is held, the check valve is leaking and the vacuum hose must be replaced.

CAUTION:
Do not attempt to clean the vacuum hose or check valve.

4. Again, using the external vacuum pump, apply vacuum to the intake manifold side of the vacuum hose.
No vacuum should be held. If there is vacuum, the vacuum hose is plugged and the vacuum hose assembly must be replaced.
