This bulletin is issued to provide you with Inspection and Repair procedures for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) related to the Electronic Brake-force Distribution's (EBD's) "G" Sensor that is not included in the 2001 ~ 2002 MY Santa Fe Shop Manuals.

As part of the ABS's Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), the "G" Sensor acts as an "early warning" device, prior to ABS activity, in order to control proper front-to-rear brake proportioning. As you know, the vehicle's weight transfers to the front during braking, which sometimes results in a "nosedive", depending on the severity of the braking. Under extreme braking, the ABS should activate. But, heavy braking, less than the ABS activation threshold, requires more brake force to the front wheels than the rear wheels. The gravitational force ("G" force) created is detected by the "G" Sensor, which electronically proportions the appropriate braking pressures to the front and the rear brake callipers, via the ABS Actuator.

Santa Fe's without ABS do not have this feature. They use the conventional brake proportioning valve that distributes the front-to-rear brake-force at a predetermined rate. Santa Fe's equipped with ABS use a Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU), which is where the logic for the EBD, and the "C" Sensor are controlled.
