Parking Brake System: Service and Repair

PARKING BRAKE





COMPONENTS

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery negative terminal.





2. Remove the lower crash pad panel, parking brake release cable knob,hood cable release knob and switch plate.








3. Remove the floor console.
4. Remove the release cable assembly.
5. After disconnecting the front parking brake cable, remove the parking brake pedal assembly.





6. Remove the adjusting nut and the front parking brake cable.
7. Remove the rear seat cushion and take up the carpet.
8. Remove the parking brake cable clamp and grommet.
9. Move the center muffler heat protector center panel to the front.





10. Remove the tire assembly and the brake disc.





11. Remove the rear hub assembly.
12. Remove the springs and shoe hold down pins.





13. Remove the parking brake cable retaining ring in the rear of the backing plate.
14. Disconnect the cable end from the trailing shoe.
15. Drive out the parking brake cable to the under body side.

INSPECTION
1. Check the parking brake switch operation.
2. Check the parking brake pedal assembly for damage and wear.
3. Check the parking brake cable or the operation or damage.

INSTALLATION
Installation is the reverse of removal.





1. Install the parking brake while confirming its identification color.
LH: VIOLET, RH: ORANGE





2. Set the adjuster lever all the way back when installing the shoe-to-shoe spring.





3. Install the grommet in the direction shown in the illustration.





4. Apply the specified grease to contact parts of the parking brake pedal assembly.
Specified grease:
Multipurpose grease SAE J310, NLGI No.2
5. After installing the cable adjuster, adjust the parking brake cable stroke.
