Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation

Circuit Description
The vehicle speed sensor which is installed on the speedometer driven gear in the transaxle provides a pulse signal to the PCM and the ETACM. Each of the modules calculate the vehicle speed.

With the ignition switch in ON or START, battery voltage is supplied from fuse 23 to the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).

The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) intermittently grounds the circuit, which generates a pulse signal in it. The number of pulses per minute increases/decreases with the speed of the car.
