A/T - Fluid Level Checking Procedure

DESCRIPTION:

The Veracruz utilizes a new electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transaxle. The ATF level can be checked by the following procedure:

NOTE:
The Veracruz uses JWS-3309 T-4 synthetic automatic transaxle fluid (ATF). Use only ATF meeting the JWS-3309 T-4 specification approved by Hyundai Motor Company. DO NOT use SPIII or other ATF which may result in degradation of shift quality or transaxle durability.

ATF LEVEL INSPECTION:

1. Attach a Hi-Scan or GDS and select "Automatic transaxle" menu, "Current Data and "Fluid temperature".

2. Drive the vehicle until the fluid temperature is between 122 - 140°F (50 - 60°C).

3. Step on the brake, start the engine, then shift into "R" "N" "D" and back, pausing 2 seconds in each range. Repeat two times.

4. Move the shift lever to P, leave the "engine running" and lift the vehicle on a hoist.





5. Remove the overflow plug using a T40 Torx wrench. The oil level is correct if ATF flows out in a thin oil stream or steady drop-by-drop. If no oil flow occurs, go to Step 6.

NOTE:
Collect and dispose of any excess fluid in accordance with local regulations.

6. Lower the vehicle to the ground and turn off the engine.

7. Remove the duct to the air cleaner assembly to access the oil filler plug.





8. Remove the oil filler plug using a T55 Torx wrench and add 1/2 quart of JWS-3309 T-4 ATF.

NOTE:
DO NOT use SPIII or other ATF.

9. Apply ATF to a new 0-ring and install it to the filler plug.

10. Tighten the filler plug to specification of 17 - 20 lb-ft (2.4 - 2.8 kgf.m).

11. Start the engine, move the shift lever to "P" and raise the vehicle on a lift.

12. Remove the overflow plug using a T40 Torx wrench. The oil level is correct if ATF flows out in a thin oil stream or steady drop-by-drop. If no oil flow occurs, go to Step 4 and repeat the procedure from Steps 4-12.

13. Apply ATF to a new 0-ring and install it to the overflow plug.

14. Install and tighten the overflow plug to specification of 4-6 lb-ft (0.6-0.9 kgf.m).

15. Wipe off spilled ATF completely.

JWS-3309 T-4 automatic transaxle fluid is available from local Mobil oil distributors, and may be available from other manufacturer's dealerships.
