CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DTC P0128 (COOLANT THERMOSTAT)

DESCRIPTION:

Some vehicles equipped with the 2.4L engine may exhibit a check engine light with DTC P0128 (coolant thermostat) under some driving conditions when the heater/defroster is used at maximum blower speed and high heat setting.

Perform the below service procedure should DIG P0128 be found.

NOTE:
There are no vehicle performance issues associated with this condition.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:

^ 2011MY SONATA (YF) 2.4L

^ 2O10MY SANTA FE (GM) 2.4L





PARTS INFORMATION:

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

Removal:

1. Drain the engine coolant until the level is just below the thermostat.





2. Remove the radiator lower hose (A).





3. Remove thermostat (B), gasket (C) and water inlet fitting (D). Scrap all 3 parts B-D.

Installation:

4. Install the new parts in reverse order of removal. lightening torque: 7.8 ~ 11.8N.m (0.8 ~ 1.2kgf.m, 5.8 ~ 8.71b-ft)

NOTE:
Install the thermostat with the jiggle valve upward.

5. Fill the engine coolant.

IMPORTANT:
Be sure to fill with 50150 antifreeze/water coolant mix. Incorrect antifreeze mixture may cause temperature related issues including DTC P0128.

6. Start the engine and check for leaks.

7. Recheck the coolant level.

8. Erase the DIG P0128 from the ECM.
