Collision Diagnosis
Fig. 9 Collison Diagnosis.:
On vehicles which have experienced an air bag system deployment, certain SRS components must be replaced.
After the vehicle has been in a collision, the air bag system should be inspected.
Also, when performing service procedures, do not expose sensors, wiring or other SRS components to heat guns, welding or spray guns. If air bag has been deployed, proceed as follows:
1. If using Consult tool, inspect control unit by connecting tool and erasing memory. The memory may not clear.
2. If using the air bag warning lamp, turn ignition ON, then cycle driver's door switch on and off five times within seven seconds. Perform this procedure twice.
3. If air bag warning lamp remains lit continuously, replace control unit.
4. Remove deployed air bag unit as described under Air Bag.
5. Inspect SRS components as shown in Fig. 9.
6. If SRS components show any visible signs of damage such as dents, cracks, or deformation, they must be replaced.
7. Conduct self-diagnosis as described under Self-Diagnosis, to ensure entire SRS is operating properly, allowing for an open circuit caused by removal of air bag unit.
8. Repair or replace any component found to be defective during self-diagnostic test.
9. Install new air bag unit as described under Air Bag.
