Removal & Installation

NOTE: Refer to Technician Safety Information for air bag system disarming and arming procedures.

All Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) harnesses and connectors are covered with yellow outer insulation and related components are located in the steering column, center console, instrument panel, upper radiator core support and at the front fenders. Do not use electrical equipment on these circuits, as accidental deployment or personal injury may result.

1. Remove steering wheel as outlined under Steering Wheel.
2. Remove steering column as shown in Fig. 1.
3. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. When installing column, loosely tighten all brackets and clamp attaching bolts. After all attaching bolts are installed, then secure all bolts.
b. When attaching coupler joint make sure cutout portion of shaft faces attaching bolt, Fig. 6.
c. When installing lower joint to steering gear, align slit of lower joint with projection on dust cover, Fig. 7.
