Idle Up Control Valve: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
To raise idle speed during operation of the Air Conditioning Compressor.

OPERATION
The particular valve being discussed in this article is the Idle Air Control Valve-Fast Idle Control Device (IACV-FICD) solenoid valve.
The IACV-FICD solenoid valve compensates for changes in idle speed caused by the operation of the Air Conditioning Compressor.
The IACV-FICD solenoid valve opens an air passage in its housing when its solenoid is energized, thus raising engine idle speed.

CONSTRUCTION
The IACV-FICD solenoid valve consists of a spring, plunger and an electromagnetic winding housed in a metal body.
