Axle Shaft: Service and Repair

Fig. 6 Rear Driveshaft:

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheels.
2. Remove wheel bearing locknut.
3. Remove side flange mounting bolts from final drive side Fig. 6, then separate shaft.
4. On wheel side remove shaft by tapping with soft hammer.
5. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Insert shaft into wheel hub, lightly tighten wheel bearing locknut.
b. Attach side flange, side flange bolts, then tighten to specifications.
c. Tighten wheel bearing locknut to specifications.
