Accelerator Pedal: Service and Repair
Removal and InstallationThe accelerator wire should be adjusted when removing and replacing any parts of the Accelerator Control System, shown in the illustration.
REMOVAL
1. Remove engine ornament cover using power tools.
2. Loosen lock nut, and remove accelerator wire from throttle drum.
3. Remove accelerator wire from accelerator pedal.
4. Remove accelerator wire bracket bolt and nut, and pull accelerator wire into vehicle interior.
5. Remove accelerator pedal bracket nuts, then remove accelerator pedal and bracket assembly.
INSTALLATION
- Install in reverse order of removal procedures, paying extra attention to the items below.
CAUTION:
- Do not leave scratches, twist or bends on accelerator wire cores.
- Do not apply lubricant to inside accelerator wire.
- Check if accelerator pedal is free from contact with other parts, and releases smoothly.
- For ASCD wire adjustment, refer to "ASCD Wire Adjustment".
Adjusting Accelerator Wire
1. Loosen lock nut and adjusting nut.
2. Tighten accelerator adjusting nut until throttle drum starts to move.
3. From that position, turn back adjusting nut 1.5 to 2 turns.
4. Tighten lock nut to specified torque holding adjusting nut.
INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION
- Check if throttle drum opens fully when accelerator pedal is fully depressed to the floor, and operates smoothly in all process.
- Check if throttle drum returns to idle position when pedal is released.
- Check if the ASCD wire is not pulling the throttle drum.
