Date:
July 18, 2003
2002-2003 Q45/M45; INTELLIGENT CRUISE CONTROL CANCELS DURING USE AND ECM SETS MIL "ON" DTC P0605
APPLIED VEHICLE(S):
2002-2003 Q45 (F50)
2003 M45 (Y34)
IF YOU CONFIRM:
If the Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) cancels during use and:
^ The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) turns ON
^ A Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0605 is found stored in the ECM.
ACTION:
Perform SERVICE PROCEDURE below.
CLAIMS INFORMATION
Submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line claim using the claims coding shown.
IMPORTANT:
The purpose of ACTION (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
You will be performing the following:
^ Self-Diagnosis.
^ ECM Part Number Check to determine if reprogramming is needed.
^ ECM Reprogramming (needed if a match is found during ECM Part Number Check).
Perform Self-Diagnosis:
1. Perform Self-Diagnosis using CONSULT-II.
2. Print the Self-Diagnostic Results that contains the ECM Part Number.
3. Attach the printout to the repair order.
See Figure 1 for an example of the CONSULT-II Self-Diagnosis printout.
4. Erase the Self-Diagnosis results.
ECM Part Number Check:
1. Look at the Self-Diagnosis printout from step 1 above.
^ Note the vehicle's Current ECM Part Number.
^ Compare it to the P/N's listed in the chart under Current ECM P/N.
A. If the ECM P/N in the vehicle matches one of those listed under "Current ECM P/N":
^ If the ASIST ECM Lookup Method is "Model/Model Year", Perform ECM Reprogramming "A" below.
^ If the ASIST ECM Lookup Method is "ECM ID code 020501", Perform ECM Reprogramming "1" below.
B. If the ECM P/N in the vehicle does not match one of those listed under "Current ECM P/N":
^ This bulletin does not apply. Use the appropriate Electronic Service Manual (ESM) to further diagnose and repair the incident.
ECM Reprogramming "A" (Model/Model Year):
1. Perform ECM Reprogramming to install the latest available ECM data.
A) Select model and model year for the applied vehicle (i.e. Q45 2003).
B) Make a note of the "To" number listed in the ECM Reprogramming Data Summary screen.
NOTE:
The "To" number will read: 23710-XXXXX.
C) Press "Continue" and follow directions to perform data download from ASIST to CONSULT-II.
D) When reprogramming from CONSULT-II select the "To" number that you made note of in step B above.
E) Re-program the vehicle's ECM.
ECM Reprogramming "1" (ECM ID code):
IMPORTANT NOTES:
^ This is a special ECM reprogram process and this procedure is only to be used for vehicles with the "Current ECM P/N" of 23710-AR203 ONLY!
^ An ECM ID CODE must be entered (see Figure 3) to get the Reprogramming data from ASIST. This is different from the typical ECM Reprogramming procedures now in use, which requires the model and model year to be entered to look up ECM data in ASIST.
^ Attachment 1 - "Special ECM Reprogramming Procedure for ECM I.D. Entry" is only to be used for vehicles with the "Current ECM P/N" of 23710-AR203 and is different from Attachment A.
^ Do NOT use Attachment A for vehicles with the "Current ECM P/N" of 23710-AR203.
Perform ECM Reprogramming using ECM ID Entry to install the latest available ECM data.
^ If you are unfamiliar with ECM Reprogramming using ECM ID Entry refer to "Special ECM Reprogramming Procedure for ECM I.D. Entry" Attachment.
^ For those familiar with ECM Reprogramming using ECM ID Entry perform the following:
A. Click on the KeyPad button (see Figure 3).
B. Using the digit keys on the KeyPad (see Figure 4) enter ECM ID Code 020501.
C. Then click the "Continue" button on the keypad.
D. Press "Continue" and follow directions to perform data download from ASIST to CONSULT-II.
E. Re-program the vehicle's ECM.
