Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

Ignition Cable: Testing and Inspection

1. Check the high tension cables for broken insulation, terminals for corrosion or damage and replace with new ones as necessary.
2. Resistance of cables should be 31.5 to 73.5 kilo-ohms per foot.
3. Check fit of cables to the spark plugs and distributor sockets for looseness; correct as necessary.
4. The high tension cables are made up of a material consisting of rayon, semi-conductor paint, etc. Therefore, avoid bending sharply, stretching or piercing with a needle in an attempt to check ignition timing; otherwise, resistance is increased locally, causing burning of the cable
