EGR Valve: Testing and Inspection

1. Depress valve diaphragm with finger to ensure that it operates smoothly through the full stroke.
2. Start engine and allow to idle, then force EGR valve open. Engine idling should become rough. Leakage in EGR valve causes rough engine idling. To check EGR valve for leakage, disconnect EGR valve piping at exhaust manifold side and see if engine idling becomes smooth.
3. If valve does not operate as specified, replace EGR valve.
