1. Connect suitable tester between control unit terminal No. 5 and ground.
2. Disconnect speedometer cable at transmission side and turn inner cable slowly.
3. If tester indicates continuity and open circuit condition alternately as cable is turned, speed sensor and circuit are satisfactory.

4. If tester indicates continuity and open circuit condition alternately as cable is turned, speed sensor and circuit are satisfactory. If not satisfactory, proceed with step 5.
5. Remove cluster assembly, then connect leads of tester as shown by arrows in Fig. 50.
6. Turn inner cable slowly and check that tester indicates a continuity and an open circuit condition alternately.
7. If not satisfactory, replace speedometer assembly. If test is satisfactory, test the circuit resistance by proceeding to step 8.

8. Check resistance of speed sensor circuit as shown in Fig. 51, then compare with specifications in chart, Fig. 52
9. If measured resistance is not as specified in chart, repair or replace faulty wires.
