Heater Core: Service and Repair

HEATER UNIT/CORE
Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering wheel.
3. Remove instrument panel.
4. Remove evaporator to compressor and receiver tank attaching flare nuts.
5. Disconnect vacuum hose at evaporator assembly.
6. Disconnect evaporator relay electrical connectors.
7. On models with diesel engines disconnect heater hoses at heater control unit.
8. Disconnect air ducts from heater control unit.
9. Disconnect heater unit relay electrical connectors.
10. Remove heater unit attaching nuts.
11. Remove heater unit assembly.
12. Remove defroster door spring.
13. Remove defroster door rod and lever.
14. Remove battery relay.
15. Remove A/C resistor.
16. Remove heater core plate and seal.
17. Remove water valve rod and the heater core.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
