Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Check ECM for trouble codes. If codes are found, proceed with appropriate diagnostic procedure.
2. Check all vacuum hoses for correct routing.
3. Adjust idle speed to specification (see IDLE SPEED under ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.)
4. Connect timing light.
5. Loosen distributor mounting bolt.
6. With engine idling, adjust ignition timing to 16° BTDC @ 900 rpm.
7. Tighten distributor mounting bolt.
8. Recheck timing, repeat adjustment if necessary.
