Ignition Timing: Adjustments

Timing Marks:

1. With transmission in "P" or "N," warm engine to normal operating temperature. Ensure "Check Engine" light is "OFF." Turn engine and all accessories "OFF."

ALDL Connector:

2. Connect a jumper wire between ALDL diagnostic connector terminals "1" and "3." Connect timing light to number 1 plug wire and start engine.
3. Check timing. Raise engine speed to 1500-2000 rpm if necessary to read timing.
4. Adjust timing by loosening distributor hold-down bolt and turning distributor. Tighten bolt to 24 Nm (17 ft.lb). Recheck timing.
5. Remove jumper wire from ALDL and ensure that "Check Engine" light is "OFF."

Timing specification: 9~-11~ BTDC @ 850 rpm
