Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Testing and Inspection

Positive Crankcase Ventilation System:

PCV VALVE TESTING

1. Remove PCV valve from vehicle.
2. Attach a hose to the valve cylinder head side and blow. Check that air passes through easily.

CAUTION: Do not suck through the valve. Inhaling petroleum substances can be injurious to health.

3. Reverse hose and blow from intake manifold side. Air should pass through with difficulty.
4. Replace the PCV valve if it fails either test.

Inspect PCV hoses, connections and gaskets for cracks, leaks or damage. Replace components as needed to maintain the integrity of the PCV system.
