Service Procedure





1. Check to see if a new locking A/T dipstick (Figure 1) has already been installed.

a. If a new locking Apr dipstick has already been installed, quit this Service Procedure. Refer to Service Campaign Bulletin SB93-05-008 for instructions on installing ATF dipstick warning tag.





2. Remove and discard the existing Apr dipstick. Perform steps (a) through (d) below to ensure that the 2-piece dipstick/filler tube is installed correctly. Failure to do so will result in an incorrect ATF reading. See Figure 2.

a. Remove the Apr upper dipstick/filler tube.

b. Clean the two mating surfaces and the 0-ring area.

c. Apply ThreeBond 1281 sealant to the 0-ring and lower tube. Reinstall the upper tube to the lower tube.





d. Be sure that the upper tube is fully seated to the lower tube. See Figure 3.

3. Install a new Apr dipstick (see "Parts information" section).





NOTE
Be sure that the pin at the top of the new dipstick is in the locked position. See Figure 4.

NOTE
If the vehicle has been driven a prolonged period of time or in hot weather, wait until the ATF cools for approximately 30 minutes before proceeding with step 4.

4. Check and adjust the ATF level as follows:

a. Vehicle must be on a level surface. Set the parking brake.

b. Start the engine with the transmission in Park.

c. With the service brakes applied, move the shift lever through all the gear ranges, ending in "P".

d. With the engine idling, use the new dipstick to check the ATF level. Carefully touch the wet end of the dipstick to find out If the fluid Is cool, warm, or hot. Wipe it clean and push it back into the guide tube until the cap seats. Pull out the dipstick and read the ATF level.

e. If it felt cool, about room temperature of 68-86°F (20-30°C), the level should be in the "C" (cold) range.

f. If it felt warm, about normal operating temperature of 158-176°F (70-80°C), the level should be in the "H" (hot) range.

g. If required, adjust the ATF level to the proper mark as follows:

^ Using a suction tool and hose (Mityvac hand vacuum pump 6810 with Brake Bleeder Kit 6820, or equivalent), remove excess ATF as required to bring ATF to its proper level.

^ Recheck ATF level. Repeat above procedure as required.

5. Affix a campaign label to the inside of the driver's door. Using a ball-point pen, fill in label with campaign number 90V-167 and Isuzu dealer code.

6. Refer to Service Campaign Bulletin SB93-05-008 for instructions on installing ATF dipstick warning tag.
