Ignition Lock: Service and Repair

1. Disarm airbag system, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.
2. Place ignition switch in lock position, then disconnect battery ground cable and tape cable end.
3. Remove four airbag retaining bolts from rear of steering wheel.
4. Disconnect airbag module electrical connector, then remove airbag module from vehicle. Place airbag module on a flat surface with the urethane cover facing up.
5. Remove steering wheel retaining nut.
6. Using steering wheel puller tool No. J-1859-03 or equivalent, remove steering wheel assembly.
7. Disconnect horn wires from steering wheel, then remove upper and lower steering cowl covers.
8. Remove coil assembly, then the steering lock assembly retaining ring from steering column.
9. Remove steering lock retaining bolt, then the steering lock assembly.
10. Reverse procedure to install. Torque steering wheel retaining bolts to 25 ft. lbs.
