Component Tests and General Diagnostics

Never operate the starter motor for more than 15 seconds at a time without allowing starter to cool for at least two minutes.

1. Using fully charged battery and switch with open/close feature, connect volt meter and RPM indicator in series to starter motor.
2. Connect open switch to switch terminal.
3. Connect volt meter from motor terminal to motor frame.
4. Connect RPM indicator to measure armature speed.





5. Close switch and compare to values in Fig. 6.
6. If specifications are out of limits, replace starter.
